Telehealth and Telemedicine Update 10-1-22

Effective October 1, 2022, Health New England’s claims editing software will be reviewing telehealth/telemedicine claims against industry standards. It is important when providing services through telehealth/telemedicine that you are following the guidelines as outlined by CMS (correct Procedure Code with Modifier and Place of Service).
Prior to the public health emergency, Health New England’s software did review these type of claims; however, it was modified to meet the various pandemic mandates. Since then, Health New England has reviewed its system and updated it, including the two types of Place of Service codes (POS 02 and POS 10) released April 2022. In addition, a more comprehensive Telehealth (Telemedicine) Services payment policy will be released, which will align with CMS.
