Genetic Molecular Testing (GMT) Lab Network Change (October 2025)
Posted on October 6, 2025
Important change regarding Health New England’s genetic molecular testing (GMT) lab contracts: Health New England is in the process of evaluating and establishing a preferred GMT lab network. We are partnering with Quest Diagnostics to provide the majority of GMT services and are in active discussions with several specialty laboratories to expand GMT testing options. This transition will result in some GMT providers being out of network (OON) as of January 1, 2026.
What is Happening and Why?
The decision to transition away from the current lab network is part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our provider network and ensure the highest quality of care for our members.
When Does This Transition Take Effect?
The transition will take effect on January 1, 2026. Providers will need to be aware of this date and make the necessary adjustments to their operations.
We will share updates as additional information regarding the network expansion becomes available.
Who is Impacted?
This change will impact all providers who currently utilize the current lab network for GMT. Providers will need to check the Health New England Provider Directory at https://www.hnedirect.com to determine if a GMT lab is in network (INN) or out of network (OON).
What Do Providers Need to Do?
Providers will need to utilize the Health New England Provider Portal at https://www.hnedirect.com to verify the network status of GMT labs. It is crucial to ensure that the labs you work with are in network to avoid any disruptions in service.
