Experimental and Investigational Codes – June 2020

Effective 8/1/2020, Heath New England considers the following codes to be experimental and investigational and will be non-covered:
| Code | Description |
| 97607 | Negative pressure wound therapy, (eg, vacuum assisted drainage collection), utilizing disposable, non-durable medical equipment including provision of exudate management collection system, topical application(s), wound assessment, and instructions for ongoing care, per session; total wound(s) surface area less than or equal to 50 square centimeters.

| 97608 | Total wound(s) surface area greater than 50 square centimeters. |
| A9272 | Mechanical wound suction, disposable, includes dressing and all accessories and components (managed by Northwood and considered experimental and investigational). |
The Medical Technology Assessment Committee (MTAC) reviewed these devices and determined that they have not been proven to be superior to a conventional wound vac.
A conventional wound vac may be authorized through Northwood.
