IN SEARCH OF THE HOLY GRAIL
What would it take to motivate you on the path towards wellness? We all know what we should and shouldn’t do when it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle, right? Yet, when the time comes to give it more than just lip service and take action, what happens? Most of us come up with excuses why we can’t eat healthier and actually find the time in our day to get more physically active, right? Trust me, I’m right there with you! I often wonder what motivates one person to take action vs. another who doesn’t take action. What’s the difference? To me, that is what I like to call “THE HOLY GRAIL”!

Medieval legend leads people to believe that the Holy Grail often takes the form of a sacred cup, chalice, or vessel. It’s an object that the Knights of the Round Table clamored for because of its suspected powers, such as the ability to regenerate life.
I am in search of that “Holy Grail”, that secret power that will regenerate people’s goals towards wellness success, including my own. I have managed to take control of my eating habits; however, I’m a little concerned with the impending holiday season. That’s always a difficult time for me, as well as others with all the temptations before us. What I like to do is bring my own calorie controlled selections and try to plan, albeit sometimes unsuccessfully, for those extra calories throughout the week to avoid the unavoidable weight gain over the holiday season.
One of the biggest challenges for most people, including myself, is fitting some kind of physical activity into the day. For me, both going to school and working full time, I find myself sitting at the computer for much of the day and then again at night doing school work. I understand where the “freshman fifteen” comes from, but what about the remainder of the academic years when you’re still out of sync with routine eating and physical activity?
Thankfully, I take advantage of stairwells as often as I can, no matter where I happen to be, at work, home, school, or anywhere. It’s a great way to sneak in some extra steps!
Funny thing is, when I go to the shopping centers, although I try to park furthest in the parking lots, inevitably there are people that are circling the front of the parking lots for the spots that are closest to the front doors. It’s kind of like watching a game of musical chairs. Do you find this a common scenario in your neck of the woods? Simply parking further in parking lots or garages, is an effortless way of fitting some extra steps into your day without consuming a great deal of time.
No matter where you are, there are some great ways to sneak in some physical activity, like stairs and parking lots for example. Do you have some helpful tips you can share about what motivates you when it comes to incorporating healthy eating and physical activity into your day?
Healthy eating and physical activity are all a part of living a healthy lifestyle. These are things that are a part of preventative care, simple things that we all can do to live a healthy life to prevent things like chronic conditions. That, to me, is part of the “Holy Grail”. The secret is finding people’s motivation for living a healthier lifestyle.
