Keep Moving!
Posted on July 5, 2011
Many of us spend our lives stuck in office chairs, staring at computer screens. It’s tough on our bodies to sit so much. There are lots of tips on how to deal with the stiffness that results from a sedentary life—for example, get up and stretch at least once an hour, or find isometric exercises that you can do at your desk. But it’s not just our bodies that need to move and stretch; it’s our minds and spirits too!
If you take that five-minute break for your body, think about moving and stretching your mind and spirit too. Try taking your mind completely off work for that same five minutes.
- Count your breaths—it’s a simple way to think about nothing
- Stare out the window
- Imagine yourself to be somewhere else, at a favorite place
- Listen to a favorite piece of music
- OR, put on headphones but don’t listen to music, or anything else. Just enjoy the silence.
Speaking of silence, many people could use a whole lot more of it than they have now. There is nothing to be afraid of about silence.
True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment. ~William Penn
There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub. ~Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
I bet you’ll find your approach to work will improve if you take these refreshing breaks of silence and movement.

Taking a break and stretching is so good for your body.
Doing some quick deep breathing helps also.
But lets not forget about our eyes. When taking that 5 minutes if not moving out of your chair close your eyes and give then a break from the screen. You will notice a difference.
