Doesn’t everybody do it?

Alphabetize their spices that is! It may seem like a lot of work, but how many times have you been making a favorite recipe only to discover you don’t have all the ingredients you need? Often when I’m helping someone organize their kitchen we’ll discover three containers of ginger; are they really using that much ginger? The answer is always “No”—I just couldn’t find it the last time I needed it.”
Also, don’t buy those huge jars of spices (unless it’s something you use a lot). Instead, buy the smallest container you can. Even if it’s a little more expensive, odds are it will be fresher the next time you need it.
Lastly, if you prepare all your meals in one specific area, store your spices as close to that area as possible vs. walking back and forth in the kitchen to retrieve just one more ingredient.
