Surviving the Mall
Posted on December 13, 2010
SUGAR: I took Friday off from work to finish my holiday shopping. Woke up feeling energized and ready to tackle the mall. I strategically planned which stores to hit first, how many times I’d have to go back my car, and believe it or not, what I planned on eating during the day. I had great success on the shopping venture…not so great in Snackville.
Tell me Spice, when you’re at the mall do you stay on plan with eating healthy or does Mrs. Fields yell your name out too?
SPICE: You know, I really don’t find it difficult to manage my choices at the mall food court. You just have to think it through. If it’s a Sbarro – just do one slice and a water. If it’s a Subway – just do a 6 inch sub, roast beef, lettuce & tomato w/ spicy mustard, plus a water, no chips! Basically, you can have what you want, you just need to choose reasonably. Always water – no soda’s, no juices and definitely avoid the smoothies. What sounds healthy actually carries an enormous amount of calories. No French fries, no chips, no baguette on the side…and NO CINNABON – ever! Unless you like to vomit afterwards.
SUGAR: Well that all sounds fine & dandy but much easier said than done! I’ll have to go back to the lost and found at the mall and see if they have my balance, which I lost on Friday at the Food Court. I just can’t see saying no to chips because then it hits the deprivation button and then I can’t think of anything but the chips! What I needed on Friday was balance and I didn’t have it. That led to a complete unbalanced weekend. Have you ever done that? Blown for a day and then said what the heck…I might as well let the weekend go and start again Monday…which by the day I have had, I think I’ll say so much for 2010. Let’s start again in 2011!!
SPICE: It isn’t easy. And yes, definitely, I’ve done that! But, I can’t throw all caution to the wind for more than one day because I put weight on far too easily. You know what I do have trouble with, when shopping all day? My back! Standing all day, holding bags and coats, poor posture – it all takes it’s toll on me. I’ve considered renting one of those electric scooters, but wasn’t sure I could handle the glare of people that know I don’t really need it.
SUGAR: Please no scooters! That is the one saving grace of the Mrs. Fields episode…knowing all the calories I’ve burned standing all day, holding bags and coats, running back and forth to the car! So you tell us…what are your days at the mall like? Balanced or not, we want to know!
SPICE: Look, y’all. Here’s a picture of me and Sugar, sharing a calorie free sundae. ![]()
