Finding Your Passion
Posted on October 12, 2010
In January 2009, I watched my youngest son graduate from college. As I waited patiently for his name to be called, I watched the procession of older students receive their degrees one after the other. Funny…I thought…they are the same age or even older than me (at least they appeared so).
Slowly, I began to realize that I had no more excuses…no more buts…no more reasons for not going back to school myself. I thought about all the lectures with my own children through the years about how important having an education is.
I like to compare my contemplations of going back to school to the children’s book “The Little Engine That Could” that states, “I think I can, I think I can, I know I can.” (or something like that) During my 1st session in the fall of 2009, I was tentatively optimistic that I could REALLY DO this thing called “college.” Then, I received my first ‘A.’ Then, my next and my next. And, here I am today, one year later still getting great marks knowing that I really can do this thing called “college.”
My experience as a student has opened my eyes to a completely new world of possibilities that I never imagined! I have found my passion in psychology. I just needed to find my confidence to go back to school. My attitude, which I like to share with other students is, “One paper at a time!” It’s a healthy attitude when you are stressed, “One day at a time,” or “One moment at a time.”
So what is your passion? Have you thought about going back to school but aren’t sure if it’s for you? Trust me if I can do it, you can too. Part of the leap means choosing the right school and the right program for the perfect fit.
