Too Busy to Work Out?
Posted on September 24, 2010
Spice: Ok, so I’ve maintained my weight loss since the slim fast program. How? Continued daily calorie sanity. Not. Fun. Do I still have in my kitchen all the stuff I love to eat? Yes, yes I do.
Am I eating it? No. But I want to eat those football shaped Oreo’s and the little miniature chocolate bars meant for the trick-or-treaters (an entire month away – what was my husband thinking????)
So with deprivation, why haven’t I continued to lose? Well, it’s because I can’t figure out when to fit exercise into my day. Help me.
Here’s my schedule:
Wake at 5:30am, shower, dress, breakfast for family, feed pets, put in load of laundry, straighten house so that OCD husband doesn’t flip out…
Leave for work at 7:30am
Arrive for work at 9am
Leave for home at 5pm
Arrive at home 6:30pm
Immediately begin preparing dinner, feed pets, empty dishwasher, put away laundry, oversee homework and saxophone practice.
Collapse on sofa at 9pm after youngest is in bed
Asleep by 10pm.
When and how can I exercise with this schedule?
Sugar: Yikes! Not sure I could stay away from Oreo’s. I can see the fitness challenge….did you know I use to do the 90 minute commute too?! Here are your options:
Option A: I’m not sure you are going to like my answer but what I did and still do is wake up extra early 3 days a week and meet my friend at the gym then head into work. So now I live 50 minutes away. I leave the house at 4:10 am hit the gym for 5, in the the office for 7 am. In your case, maybe leave at 6? Gym 7:30. Work for 9?
Option B: Break your work out into 10 minute increments. 10:30 am do the stairs for 10 minutes. 12:00 walk Tower Square for 30 minutes. 2:30 Hit the stairs again for 10.
I am slightly worried about the deprivation…isn’t moderation the key? Maybe one Oreo won’t hurt…hmmm now I sound like a diet saboteur!!
Spice: 4:10 AM??!?! Are you insane?! I can’t think of a single thing in life worth enough for me to get out of bed at 4am. I’d rather keep my fat butt than do that!
I must be my own diet saboteur. (By the way, just as an aside, I love using French words.) However, I do like the suggestions of breaking things down. I honestly believe I can do it. It’s workable.
Hey, quick question: Do you think walking around the BIG E all day cancels out eating the fried butter or no? Just asking….
Sugar: Hey, I said you could leave at 6 am. You could at least give it a try for a week and see if it is doable? Okay, Okay I can feel your fierce stare from here. The Big E, well…. if not the fried butter then what about the fried jelly beans? fried Oreo’s? Come on…wouldn’t you get out of bed early for a fried Oreo?
Spice: unfortunately, yes, I believe I might. Oh, and guess what? I just walked the stairs from 14 to 19! Whoo-hoo! Thanks, Sugar!
Sugar: So you tell us…what would motivate you to get up extra early?? Fried Oreo’s, skinny jeans? We’d love to know!!
