Some of those falls result in serious injuries that require hospitalization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Falls can be prevented \u2013 Tips to take action<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Be sure to exercise\u2014Balance problems or leg weakness can cause falls. Do exercises\u00a0to improve balance and strength so you can be more stable on your feet.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ask about your meds\u2014Some medications can cause dizziness or vision problems.\u00a0Your doctor can evaluate your risks for falling and check or adjust your medications.<br \/>\n\u2022 Check your vision\u2014Vision issues or improper glasses can cause falls. Visiting an\u00a0eye doctor at least once a year to check your eyes and glasses may help you avoid\u00a0some risks.<br \/>\n\u2022 Make your home safe\u2014Tripping hazards in your home can cause falls. Ensure your\u00a0home has good lighting. Install handrails on both sides of stairs and grab bars in\u00a0the tub\/shower. Use a non-slip tub mat. Remove throw rugs. Keep frequently used\u00a0items within reach.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to talk with your doctor about your fall risks and prevention. If you have fallen in the past,\u00a0let your doctor know. The goal\u00a0of the program is to help you decrease your risk of falling and help you maintain your independence.\u00a0You\u2019ll work directly with a qualified member of the rehabilitation team who will help to identify factors that\u00a0could decrease your risk of falls, and provide you with a specialized strength and balance program.<\/p>\n<div><strong>How to Enroll<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>If you are interested, please talk to your doctor about participating in the program, or call one of the\u00a0following participating facilities for more information and to enroll. Be sure to mention you are calling\u00a0about the Health New England Falls Prevention Program.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Baystate Rehabilitation Care (various locations) at (413) 794-5600, select option 3\u2013Rehabilitation<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u2022 Berkshire Medical Center Outpatient Rehabilitation (Pittsfield) at (413) 447-2234<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><em>Please note: If you choose to participate in the Falls Prevention Program, you will require a referral from\u00a0your primary care provider or specialist for the outpatient rehabilitation services.<\/em><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><strong>Get Reimbursed<\/strong><br \/>\nOnce you have completed the program, the Falls Prevention rehabilitation team will\u00a0submit an attestation and reimbursement request on your behalf to Health New England\u00a0to reimburse you for the copayments paid during your visits, up to the maximum\u00a0amount.
