I\u2019m grateful that Health New England gives each of our associates the opportunity to do so, where and when we can.<\/p>\n<p>After losing of a good friend to breast cancer, I started to participate in the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/bayhf.convio.net\/site\/TR?fr_id=1141&amp;pg=entry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rays of Hope Walk<\/a> to keep my friend\u2019s memory alive. My husband chaired the Rays of Hope in 2009 &#8211; 2010, the only male chair this event has seen in its 26 years!\u00a0 This led to working on other various committees that he chaired.\u00a0 We have continued to support this very special event in the community.\u00a0 It has been nearly 23 years that I have personally been involved with the Rays of Hope, and I don\u2019t see myself stopping any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>For a number of years, I have been active with volunteering to serve meals at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csoinc.org\/housing-homeless-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Friends of the Homeless<\/a>.\u00a0 A simple \u201chello and friendly smile\u201d can mean so much when interacting with our community partners in need.\u00a0 It\u2019s a pretty humbling and heartwarming experience as well.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I have joined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwpv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Way of Pioneer Valley<\/a> committee here at Health New England to assist with the planning of events and other related activities leading up to various aspects of fundraising and volunteering. Prior to my participation in Health New England\u2019s Day of Caring, I used to volunteer with an agency that provided services to nonprofits. It really opens one\u2019s eyes to the number of nonprofits services and agencies within our community and who depend on volunteers.\u00a0 So whether I make monetary donations or volunteering my time, I\u2019m happy that I can support such a worthy organization.<\/p>\n<p>-Patti L.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volunteering and giving back to the community has always been an important part of my life.
