{"id":8680,"date":"2019-12-10T20:01:12","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T20:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hnetalk.com\/member\/?p=8680"},"modified":"2019-12-10T20:01:59","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T20:01:59","slug":"a-commitment-to-social-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hnetalk.com\/member\/a-commitment-to-social-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"A commitment to social justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the things I like most about my church, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trinityspringfield.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trinity United Methodist Church in Springfield<\/a>, is our shared commitment to social justice.\u00a0 For the past two years, the church has hosted an event called \u201cArm in Arm: United Against Gun Violence.\u201d\u00a0 Poets, musicians, dancers, and visual artists put together a concert to raise money for organizations that focus on decreasing gun violence.\u00a0 Last year\u2019s concert raised approximately $1,700, which was dispersed to The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, The Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation and Every Town for Gun Safety Action.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, for me, an important part of participating in this event is that my whole family gets involved. My sister and her husband read out loud to the congregation a poem they wrote. My mother, a pianist, accompanied by several other musicians and singers perform on stage.
