This is a new free mobile information service that gives timely health information to pregnant women and new moms from pregnancy through a baby\u2019s first year.<\/p>\n<p>This program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB), delivers health tips via text message to those who need it most.<\/p>\n<p>Each year in the U.S., more than 500,000 babies are born prematurely. An estimated 28,000 children die before their first birthday. This is a public health crisis. The infant mortality rate in the U.S. is one of the highest in the industrialized world. For the first time since the 1950s the rate is on the rise. Research shows that while 90 percent of Americans have a mobile phone, fewer have access to the Internet. Texting is more prevalent among women of childbearing age.<\/p>\n<p>Women can sign up for the service by texting BABY to 511411 (or BEBE for Spanish). They receive three free SMS text messages each week, timed to their due date or baby\u2019s date of birth. These messages focus on topics critical to maternal and child health, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Birth defects prevention<\/li>\n<li>Immunization<\/li>\n<li>Nutrition<\/li>\n<li>Seasonal flu<\/li>\n<li>Mental health<\/li>\n<li>Oral health<\/li>\n<li>Safe sleep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Text4baby messages also connect women to prenatal and infant care services and other resources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Text4baby Provides Health Tips to Pregnant Women, New Moms.
