The company\u2019s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Grants went to 18 organizations in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester counties.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s DEIB grants\u00a0were designed to fund local non-profit organizations that focus on health equity and engage around at least one social determinant of health (SDOH). SDOHs are conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age that affect health, quality of life, and life expectancy. SDOHs may include socioeconomic status, food insecurity, education, access to health care, safe housing, discrimination, violence, and trauma, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Health New England focused this year\u2019s DEIB grants on mental health and the opioid epidemic after its <a href=\"https:\/\/healthnewengland.org\/Portals\/_default\/Shared%20Documents\/brand\/2022_Health_New_England_CHNA_12_21_22.pdf?ver=rq9NmFPfd2GYVJ_7QbRy5Q%3d%3d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Health Needs Assessment<\/a> demonstrated that, among public health officials in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties surveyed in 2021 for the assessment, 36% of respondents overall listed mental health and substance use as the most pressing health issues in their communities, and it was the top ranked issue in Hampden and Hampshire counties.<\/p>\n<p>The winners of Health New England\u2019s DEIB grants and the projects the grants are funding are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Berkshire County<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkshireplanning.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berkshire Regional Planning Commission\/Berkshire Tomorrow<\/a> (Pittsfield), Community Outreach Specialists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hampden County<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/chd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Human Development<\/a> (Springfield), Park Street Harm Reduction &amp; Street Outreach Program<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mdiasfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael J.
