A PCP takes care of a patient’s needs across a wide range of different medical issues. Your PCP helps you stay healthy through a variety of preventive services such as vaccinations and routine, age appropriate screening tests. Your PCP is your main health care provider in non-emergency situations. He or she is your first line of defense in getting well and staying healthy and will help you navigate the complexities of the
health care system.

For HMO members, choosing a PCP is the first and most important decision you must make when you join HNE. Your PCP is the first person you should call when you need medical care. Your PCP is responsible to coordinate all of your non-emergency healthcare needs. Having a PCP can give you a trusting, ongoing relationship with someone that will be involved in your care for a long time. It is important to have a PCP who knows you as person, not just as a number, a claim, or a series of medical problems.

Your PCP will coordinate your care.
