Flu Season is Right Around the Corner
Posted on September 8, 2021
Flu season is quickly approaching and Health New England wants to remind you of the importance of getting your annual flu vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are lots of reasons to get a flu vaccine each year. A major reason is that between 50 and 70 percent of seasonal flu related hospitalizations in the United States occur in people 65 years and older. Flu vaccination is very important for people 65 years and older because you are at higher risk of developing serious flu complications.
An annual seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the chance that you will get the flu. In addition, the flu vaccine is an important preventive tool for people with chronic health conditions. Another benefit of receiving the flu shot is that your illness may be milder if you do get sick. For more about the flu and the benefits of the flu vaccine, please visit www.cdc.gov/flu.
