In order to make it easier for consumers to use the state-mandated Cost-of-Care tools on each carrier\u2019s website, the Mass Collaborative has developed a form to simplify the process of providing patients with detailed cost information about a proposed medical service, procedure, or hospital admission.<\/p>\n
The new Cost Estimate Worksheet helps simplify the process of providing estimates to members by:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Capturing all of the information needed into one short, easy-to-use form
\n\u2022 Defining common terms used to calculate costs
\n\u2022 Providing tips for medical providers and patients on how to use the form<\/p>\n
How you can use the form
\nWe urge you to complete the one-page worksheet to help patients give their health plan the information necessary to generate an accurate cost estimate.<\/p>\n
Members are not required to provide this information to their health insurance carrier. However, this tool will ensure that all necessary information for a cost estimate is collected up-front. This will make it easier for consumers to use their carrier\u2019s Cost-of-Care tool.<\/p>\n
In addition to being available on the Mass Collaborative website, the new form will also be available through the Massachusetts Hospital Association<\/a>, the Massachusetts Medical Society<\/a>, the Massachusetts of Association of Health Plans<\/a> and health plan websites.<\/p>\n The Cost Estimate Worksheet is the latest tool developed by the Massachusetts Collaborative, a group of payers and providers working to simplify and improve the administrative aspects of health care in Massachusetts.
