All Roads Lead Home Plan
Posted on August 22, 2012
According to the All Roads Lead Home Plan (Pioneer Valley’s plan to end homelessness), in January 2007 more than 1000 individuals were staying on the streets or in shelters. Of these 349 were single individuals and 636 were persons in families.
The number of families with children experiencing homelessness is increasing at an alarming rate. In October, 2008, in Massachusetts alone, 2,472 families were living in shelters provided by the MA Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) including 4,413 children and youth. Additionally, approximately 1,000 children and youth are temporarily housed in domestic violence shelters, substance abuse shelters, and HIV/AIDS shelters. These numbers are conservative considering families denied access to shelters and those who may be living in a motel room, car, or campground are not considered in these statistics.
HNE has identified that an organization called National Health Care for the Homeless Council has adapted several clinical practice guidelines specifically for the homeless population. We hope that you find this resource to be a useful adjunct to your current health management activities. If you have any questions, you can call DeAnna Jaggi at 413-233-3962
