What You Need to Know About Your Insurance Coverage While On Vacation

Posted on August 17, 2015
Going on vacation? Health New England will cover you for emergency and urgent care services when you are out of town.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
You do not need to contact Health New England if you get services in an emergency room. Emergency room services are covered all over the United States.
If you go to an urgent care center or a doctor’s office, you must call us after the visit for Health New England to approve the cost of the visit.
If a follow up visit is needed after your urgent care or emergency room visit and you are unable to wait until you return to the Health New England service area, approval is needed before the visit. You should call your primary care provider (PCP) to submit an approval request for review.
Keep in mind, routine care such as physical exams, lab tests and screenings are not covered out of the service area, so be sure to make any needed visits with your doctor before leaving for vacation.
We hope you have a happy and safe vacation!
