A Member’s Story
“Back in March, I had a persistent headache, which was followed by a rash. I thought about seeing my PCP, whose office is about 300 yards from where I live. However, I work in Springfield and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get in to see him since it was Friday afternoon.
“Then I remembered a recent email about our new Teladoc benefit. I logged into the MyHNE member portal and clicked on the Teladoc link. On the Teladoc site, I created my account and entered my basic health information. Once I was registered, I clicked on the ‘request a consult’ button.
“After testing my internet connection, microphone and video capability, I was immediately connected to a physician via video conference. This physician was friendly and relaxed, and highly qualified. I had the chance to ask – he had been Chair of Emergency Medicine at a Massachusetts hospital.
“During this consultation, he asked about my symptoms and then asked me to move closer to the video camera on my laptop so he could get a better look at the rash on my face. He explained that one goal of this visit was to establish if he was comfortable diagnosing me or if he should direct me to an in-person doctor. Thankfully, with the information he gathered, he was comfortable making a diagnosis of my condition.
“Since I had already entered my pharmacy information when I registered, he was able to send in a prescription for me right away. He stressed that it was important I start taking the medication ASAP. I got a text in about 20 minutes that my prescription was ready for pick-up.
“I have to say that, despite some initial reservations, I was very impressed with how quick and easy this process was. In less than an hour, I was all set and on my way to recovery.”
