Our Community-Oriented Culture of Giving
Posted on December 5, 2014
HNE is a local nonprofit caring for the health of our neighbors. That means we are far more community oriented than the huge national companies. We have only 300 employees, all living and working in Massachusetts and Connecticut. We provide health insurance to over 5,000 area businesses and over 140,000 of our own neighbors. It feels good to be serving the people who work in the places we shop, teach our children, and connect with us in our faith communities. That’s why HNE culture is all about giving to our community.
Employee Giving
HNE employees are working to improve health in our area. We do much more for this goal than our jobs call for. Many of us sit on nonprofit boards or help with events. Sometimes emails go out asking for volunteers, and we step up to the plate. When the tornado hit Springfield, we donated supplies and manned a tent to pass them out. We hand out water at the AIDS Foundation of Western MA 5K Run/Walk. We do food drives and toy drives. We volunteer hundreds of hours for local nonprofits, because giving is a part of HNE culture.
Sponsorships
HNE also sponsors nonprofit events and programs. We help groups working to prevent health issues and improve health. Nonprofits we assist must serve the same people we do. They must focus on in the communities we serve. Every year, we give over $1,000,000 in over 300 sponsorships.
Here are a few of the nonprofits we sponsor:
• AIDS Foundation of Western MA
• American Heart Association
• American Red Cross
• Boys & Girls Club
• Center for Human Development (CHD)
• Children’s Miracle Network
• Food Bank of Western MA
• Hillcrest Education Center
• Link to Libraries
• Loomis Communities
• Square One
• Tapestry Health
• United Ark
• United Way
• Urban League
Our new CEO, Maura McCaffrey, says, “We are a local company having a big impact on the people and communities we serve, and we owe it to them to be the best.”
That sums up what we all believe at HNE!
