Does HNE cover ambulance services?
We cover ambulance services in emergencies or when medically necessary, for instance, if you need oxygen, cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other life-sustaining services. We cover ambulance transportation to the nearest hospital that can provide the care you need, as well as transfer from one health care facility to another.*
Does HNE cover air ambulance?
Yes, HNE covers air ambulance services in the case of a life threatening emergency. Non-life threatening services must be pre-approved by HNE.
Is non-emergency transportation covered?
Yes, under certain circumstances. Non-emergency transportation must be pre-approved by HNE. HNE covers ambulance or chair van services for a Member from a hospital setting to their home or to a skilled nursing facility. HNE cover these services when the Member cannot be safely transferred without endangering his
or her health.
What ambulance services are not covered?
HNE does not cover transportation by ambulance or by chair van:
- For patient convenience
- For non-clinical, non-medical reasons
- For transportation to receive medical care that could be planned ahead of time
