Fitness reimbursement: Have you submitted yours?
Posted on November 23, 2016
Seeing your doctor regularly isn’t the only way to stay healthy. Being active, avoiding weight gain and reducing stress are some other things you can do to improve your health. And, we’d like to help. At Health New England, we offer several wellness benefits, one of which is a fitness reimbursement.
As a member, Health New England will reimburse you up to $150* per family per calendar year for:
- Fitness club memberships: cardiovascular and strength training exercise equipment must be included in the membership
- Weight Watchers®: online, at work and traditional
- Personal trainer fees (trainers must be certified)
- Aerobics and wellness classes: such as Pilates, yoga, spinning, aerobics, strength training, tai chi, kickboxing, martial arts, etc. (class instructors must be certified)
- School and town sports registration fees
- Registration fees to participate in athletic events: such as a 5K, half marathon, Tough Mudder, triathlon, etc.
How to submit for reimbursement
Submitting your fitness reimbursement request** is easy when you use the Member Portal. To submit your fitness reimbursement request online, start by logging into my.HealthNewEngland.org. You will find a link to the Wellness Reimbursement under the “Forms” menu on the left hand side of the page. Follow the three simple steps and you’re done – nothing to print out or mail in.
Or, call Member Services to request a form at (413) 787-4004 or (800) 310-2835.
Fitness reimbursement requests for a prior year must be received by Health New England no later than March 31 of the following year. For example, a reimbursement request for a 2017 gym membership must be submitted before March 31, 2018.
What qualifies for reimbursement?
To qualify for the fitness reimbursement, you must be an active Health New England member at the time of participation in a fitness, wellness or Weight Watchers program. You can submit your form up to two times per family in each calendar year, for a combined maximum annual reimbursement of $150 per family.*
Health New England will not reimburse for:
- Classes or personal training sessions with uncertified trainers
- Fees paid to weight loss programs other than Weight Watchers
- Country clubs, social clubs or tanning salons
- Vitamins, supplements, sports/exercise equipment or golf fees
- Fees paid for food, books, transportation, videos or any other items or services
- Requests received after March 31 of the following year
So, what are you waiting for? Get active, get fit and get reimbursed for it. Be sure to register for the Member Portal if you haven’t done so already. It makes submitting for your reimbursement as easy as 1-2-3.
*Amount may vary depending on plan/group election. Some self-funded plans do not offer this reimbursement. Please check your plan materials, or contact Member Services if you need more information.
**Members of some self-funded plans must submit a paper form. Download the printable form here, complete it and mail it in with your receipt(s).
