Explaining CarePlus

What is CarePlus?
MassHealth CarePlus is a coverage type for adults ages 21 to 64 whose income is at or below 138 percent of the federal poverty level, and who do not qualify for MassHealth Standard. CarePlus serves Massachusetts residents eligible for MassHealth coverage as a result of the Medicaid expansion.
CarePlus members have not been determined disabled and do not have dependent children under age 19 living in the household.
Can I get CarePlus?
You may qualify if:
- Your household makes 138% of federal poverty level or less ($16,105 for a single adult or $23,851 for a family of four)
- You are a documented resident of Massachusetts
- You are 21-64 years old
- You do not qualify for MassHealth Standard, such as a parent or caregiver of a child
What does it cover?
MassHealth CarePlus offers a wide range of health benefits, such as:
- doctor and clinic visits
- hospital stays
- prescription medicines (co-pays may apply)
- behavioral health (mental health and/or substance use disorder) services
When Can I enroll?
You can enroll at any time as long as you are eligible. Your coverage will start on the first of the next calendar month. You can also choose your Primary Care Provider (PCP) who participates in your health plan.

How do I find out if I qualify for CarePlus and how do I apply?
Here are some ways to find out if you qualify and to get help applying:
- See a navigator at Caring Health Center or Hilltown Health Center
- See a financial counselor at any hospital or community health clinic
- Go to the MassHealth Enrollment Center at 333 Bridge St. in Springfield (413.785.4100)
- Call MassHealth Customer Service at 800.841.2900, (TTY: 800.497.4648) Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Visit mass.gov/eohhs/insurance/
