Other Care Options
As a Health New England member, you have many other ways to access the health care you need that can save you time and money. See your options below:
Primary Care Providers
Having a primary care provider (PCP) is very important.** We encourage you to choose a PCP so you can establish a relationship and discuss ways to stay healthy, and manage any chronic conditions you may have. They can also treat you for minor illnesses and injuries, even after normal business hours.
**HMO plan members are required to select a PCP. PPO plan members are not required to select a PCP, but it is highly recommended to have a PCP for continuity of care, and for non-emergency care.
Contact Your PCP First
For non-emergency medical issues, always contact your PCP first. Most of our in-network PCPs see patients for non-emergency medical issues on a timely basis. In addition, many doctors’ offices now offer telehealth services if you can’t make it to an in-person visit. And because medical problems can occur at any time, Health New England’s in-network PCPs have 24/7 coverage for calls.
Urgent Care Centers
Urgent care centers have capabilities to handle some minor medical emergencies like:
• Broken bones and sprains
• Bronchitis and pneumonia
• Insect bites, rashes and more
