Catch Up On Preventive Care
Posted on July 20, 2020
While the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak, it was important to stay home. For you and your family, that may have meant avoiding some routine doctor’s visits. But now that restrictions are easing up, it’s time to catch up on any preventive health services you missed. A good way to stay healthy Preventive care includes screening tests, vaccines and wellness
checkups that help you stay healthy. It includes things like:
• Screening mammograms every 2 years for women age 50—74 years
• Screening for colorectal cancer for adults 50—75 years
• Screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis and obesity
• Vaccinations, including shots for the flu and pneumonia
• Routine checkups where you can get advice about diet, exercise and safety, and especially depression during the COVID-19 pandemic
Your Health New England Medicare Advantage plan covers preventive care services like these (some may have a member cost-share). So don’t put them off. It’s safe to visit your doctor again—and doing so helps keep you healthy.
Telehealth option available for your 2020 Annual Well-Care Visit
Many primary care providers (PCPs) are able to conduct preventive care visits as telehealth visits (which means a visit done over the telephone). When you call to schedule your Annual Well-Care Visit, ask if your PCP can do it as a telehealth visit. The annual well-care visit is your opportunity to talk with your PCP about your overall health goals and concerns, and develop a personalized prevention plan based on your current health and risk factors.
Once you’ve had your well-care visit, log into your Member Portal at my.healthnewengland.org and fill out the Preventive Care Visit Submission Form before 12/31/2020 to receive a $20 gift card.
