Milk, It Does a Body Good but, Is There One Better Than Another?
Posted on July 11, 2014
Nowadays, with so many choices at the supermarket, how do you know what milk to buy? Whole milk, 2%, 1%, fat free, skim, almond, soy, etc… What kind do you currently like or prefer? Most of us have probably gone through the taste-test challenge and have settled. After all, they’re pretty similar in taste and nutritional value, except for the obvious fat content.
My personal preference is almond milk. Before I switched to almond milk from dairy milk, I too used to ask myself what the best choice was. I have listed some info here for you to consider the next time you’re at the grocery store. The nutritional value of almond milk (original – values for flavored varieties will be higher) is listed below, compare it to what you are currently using and taste it. Taste goes a long way!
- 30 calories per serving
- Absolutely no added sugar
- 50% more calcium than dairy milk
- Excellent source of vitamin E
- Absolutely no cholesterol or saturated fat
- Free of dairy, soy, lactose, gluten, casein, egg and MSG
- Verified by the Non-GMO Project’s product verification program
- No artificial colors, flavors or funny business
What do you think? Impressed? Almond milk is the way to go! Keep an open mind, especially when it comes to making choices and changes that will add to a healthier diet and lifestyle.
I switched just over a few months ago and I will never go back folks! I was never into drinking milk but now I love it! My only regret is not switching sooner. It works with your cereal, brownies, coffee, etc… Give it a try and I’m sure you’ll like it as much as I do.
Don't forget Coconut milk!!! Coconuts are highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. And it's lactose free so can be used as a milk substitute by those with lactose intolerance. It is a popular choice with vegans and makes a great base for smoothies, milkshakes or as a dairy alternative in baking.
I love almond milk as well. I’ve been drinking it for a year now. love it in my cereal. You gotta try the coconut milk as well, is just as yummy :o)
