“Songing in the Round”
Posted on July 6, 2012
Row, row, row your boat is probably what most people think about when they hear the term “Singing in the round”, but I purposely called this post “Songing in the round”.
“Songing in the round” is a little mind puzzle challenge I created that I want to share with you. It was a little more difficult than I thought it would be, but at the same time, it was a lot of fun.
“Songing in the round” does not require singing, but it does require some music knowledge. Here are the rules.
- Pick one of your favorite song titles.
- Now find a new song where the first word of that title was the last word in the previous title.
- Now keep doing that until you can complete the circle back to the original song.
Other rules:
- The songs can be any music type
- They must be somewhat well known
- You can go from a single case word to a plural case word (River >> Rivers)
- You can use compound words to non-compound words (Heart >> Heartbreaker >> Breaker)
- No one-word-title songs as your starting point
- Provide artist when possible
- Have Fun
Here was my attempt.
Ring of Fire – Johnny Cash
Fire and Rain – James Taylor
Rain King – Counting Crows
King of Pain – Police
Pain Killer – Judas Priest
Killer Queen – Queen
Queen of Hearts – Juice Newton
Heart of Glass – Blondie
Glass Onion – the Beatles
Onion Rings – Freddy King
Bonus Points for completing your circle in five songs or less. Next try it with movie titles.
