To Diet or Not to Diet: Weigh in on the Controversy
Posted on May 14, 2012
There’s the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, the lemonade diet (YES!!!), the Dukan diet, the South Beach diet, the Atkins diet, and the list goes on and on, have you tried them? …
I have tried almost every one of them at one point in my life or another. Alright, not the lemonade diet! I, too, like many others, have struggled with my weight my entire life. What I have learned recently is that the fat cells in your body don’t go away, they stay there! When you play the roller coaster game with your weight, they are just waiting for you to eat those extra calorie foods so that they can fill up again. Unfortunately, the weight comes back on so much faster than it comes off. These fad diets are simply that – fads. They aren’t lifestyle changes that most people can sustain for a lifetime. Unfortunately, most people go back to their old eating habits over time and then gradually (or for some, quickly) gain back the weight that they lost and then some; usually, becoming more discouraged over time that they can’t sustain the weight loss. This is unhealthy for our bodies.
I gave up on the fad diets and now I commit to healthy eating. I participate in Weight Watchers®, which is a healthy way to eat and a lifestyle that I can stick to. Whether I am eating at home, work, with friends, or out at a restaurant – wherever I am – I can always fit it into my lifestyle. I feel great! I am committed to this healthy lifestyle.
