Chocoholics Rejoice!
Posted on April 5, 2012
According to a new study, people who eat chocolate a few times per week or more weigh less than those who rarely indulge in the sweet.
The Aztecs called chocolate the “food of the gods” and there are many benefits to eating chocolate:
- Chocolate contains valeric acid, a relaxant which is good for stress
- Chocolate boosts brain levels of serotonin
- Chocolate contains theobromine, a mild caffeine-like stimulant that can help you feel more alert
- Dark chocolate has been shown to lower blood pressure
- Chocolate stimulates the production of endorphins, which give you a feeling of pleasure
Not all chocolate is created equal however—dark chocolate is especially high in anti-oxidants and lower in sugar so it’s better for you than milk chocolate.
Chocolate is high in saturated fat and sugar so don’t overdo, but it tastes so good and a few chocolate Easter eggs this weekend won’t hurt!
