Posted on February 7, 2012
We have tools in our being health tool box that we can use to help us stay healthy as possible in this difficult season.
Wash those hands! Washing hands with soap and water remove bacteria that can cause the common “cold” and flu. Antibacterial liquid hand soap is the best to use.
- Use warm water.
- Make sure the soap covers all surfaces of your hands – pay special attention to the areas around your fingernails and under your fingernails…Germs love to hide!
- Friction and the soap work together to remove the bacteria off the surface of you hands. Wash them for several minutes to get the maximum effect.
- Rinse them thoroughly removing all the soap completely.
- Dry you hands with a clean dry paper towel and use a clean dry paper towel to turn off the “dirty faucets”.
Get a Flu Shot every year. Your best defense agains the flu is not to get it!
Get plenty of rest to keep your resistance against disease efficient as possible.
Drink plenty of fluids to keep you body functioning at maximum potential.
Keep your house surfaces that you touch as clean as possible.
If you do get sick, cover you mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze and wash your hands afterwards. If no soap and water is available, then use a hand sanitizer available at most stores. The alcohol free hand sanitizers will not dry your hands out so much! If you are really sick…use those sick days at work to minimize getting your co-workers sick and see you MD if you are not getting any better and/or you develop a fever that persists.
Lets stay as healthy as possible!
