Toss the takeout menus:
Posted on September 29, 2011
When you dine out, you never really know what you’re getting. While you may think you’re too busy, a little planning can help put a home-cooked meal on the table every night.
Here are some simple steps to follow: buy a slow cooker or crock pot. You can start your meal the night before and then just plug in your slow cooker the next morning (wouldn’t it be nice to come home to the aroma of a delicious beef stew, ready to eat?) Think spinoff meals: if you make homemade meatballs with sauce for grinders one night, cook some pasta that second night and use up the remaining meatballs. Think big: make more than enough so you can freeze portions for future meals. Roast a chicken this weekend and then use the leftovers to make chicken soup or chicken pot pies.
It does take some work, but replacing even a few take-out meals will cut down on expenses. And when you make it yourself, you know exactly what’s in your meals.
