Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. Individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>HNE covers one supplemental routine vision exam per calendar year at no cost under most plans. There is no copay, and the cost does not apply toward any deductible. The cost of refraction testing (an exam that measures how well one can see at specific distances) is also covered. Factors placing an infant, toddler, or child at significant risk for visual impairment include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prematurity, low birth weight, low oxygen at birth, grade III or IV intraventricular hemorrhage<\/li>\n<li>Family history of retinoblastoma, congenital cataracts, or metabolic or genetic disease<\/li>\n<li>Infection of mother during pregnancy (e.g., rubella, toxoplasmosis, venereal disease, herpes, cytomegalovirus, or AIDS)<\/li>\n<li>Difficult or assisted labor, which may be associated with fetal distress or low Apgar scores<\/li>\n<li>High refractive error<\/li>\n<li>Strabismus<\/li>\n<li>Anisometropia<\/li>\n<li>Known or suspected central nervous system dysfunction evidenced by developmental delay, cerebral palsy, dysmorphic features, seizures, or hydrocephalus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Periodic eye and vision examinations are an important part of preventive health care.
