Options for Employer Groups Affected by Change in Small Group Size Definition
Posted on September 8, 2015
Employer groups in Massachusetts with 51-100 employees will soon be affected by the ACA’s provision that redefines the size of small employers in 2016. To help make this transition easier, Health New England is offering various options for your clients that will be affected by this change:
- Transitional Relief – Some employer groups may choose to remain in the large group market. The Massachusetts Division of Insurance (DOI) recently announced the option for carriers to allow employers with 51-100 employees to delay the transition to the small group market for renewals through 10/1/16.
- Early Renewal – Affected employer groups may choose to renew early in order to retain 2015 benefit designs and large group designation. If any of your clients would like to elect this early renewal option in 2015, you must notify your HNE account representative by 09/16/15.
- Change to Self-Funded – As a third option, your clients may elect to transition from fully funded to self-funded, which exempts the employer group from the ACA small group change. Please contact your HNE account representative if you are interested in discussing self-funded plan options.
We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing our partnership with you to help offer leading healthcare solutions and cost-savings opportunities for your clients.
As always, please contact your HNE account representative with any questions or concerns. We are always happy to help!
